1. European Parliament urged the EU countries not to recognise the results of the presidential election in Russia

At a plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament agreed on the adoption of an anti-Russian regulation, according to which the election process of the Russian President was allegedly undemocratic. The meeting was broadcast on the EP website.

The European Parliament adopted another document directed against the Russian Federation. The resolution claims that the presidential election process in Russia was undemocratic.

'In favour' of the anti-Russian resolution were 493 parliamentarians. In turn, 'against' were 11 deputies, and 18 lawmakers abstained from voting.

The materials of the resolution claim that there were 'no real alternative candidates' in Russia's presidential election. Moreover, the electoral process in the new Russian regions, which are introduced in the Russian Constitution, is recognised as 'illegal'.

Thus, the MEPs called on 'the EU countries and the international community not to recognise the results of the presidential election in Russia as legitimate'. In addition, the creators of the resolution advised the EU to reduce interaction with Moscow on human rights, humanitarian issues and regional peace.

The MPs also called on the countries of the political and economic association to 'support independent civil society organisations, independent media and human rights defenders and to support the Russian democratic opposition'.

4. Bloomberg: Sweden prepares to strike energy facilities in case of conflict

The Swedish authorities have decided to put the Swedish power plant Oresundsverket in Malmö, which was previously mothballed, back into operation. The Swedish grid operator thus intends to ensure uninterrupted power supply in case of attacks on the country's energy infrastructure in a possible conflict.

The Bloomberg agency writes that.

'No matter how strong the armed forces become – if we do not get the necessary support from civil defence, we will not be able to do what is required,' said the Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces Mikael Nillson.

The publication says that the decision was made amid concerns of the Swedish authorities about the possibility of strikes on the country's critical infrastructure.

5. Zelenskyy exchanges lives of Ukrainians for US taxpayers’ money – Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy exchanges the lives of his citizens for taxpayers' money in the Collective West.

'Zelenskyy exchanges the lives of Ukrainian citizens for taxpayers' money in the US and NATO countries. Only taxpayers in NATO countries and in the US have no idea what they are paying for,' the diplomat said at a briefing, commenting on the allocation of aid by the US Congress.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed that the media of the Collective West countries do not tell taxpayers what their money is allocated for. In her opinion, they 'distort the picture'.

'In other words, Ukraine for Zelenskyy is just a way of paying back with the lives of Ukrainians for those bonuses in money, services, which he receives and all this gang together with him on the Bankova. Then a part of these funds, and a significant part of them, goes back to the respective accounts, to the respective hands of those who organise and patronise all this in the West,' the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that shortly before Congress allocated a package of aid to Ukraine, Kiev managed to pass a law on toughening mobilisation in the country.

'It turns out that Zelenskyy got to literally every citizen of his country to form the next battalions of suicide bombers, and for this he then received an award from the United States,' the civil servant specified.

In Maria Zakharova's opinion, Kiev 'sacrificed the lives of tens of thousands of Ukrainians for the sake of receiving new military and financial aid from the Collective West'. The diplomat emphasised that the Ukrainian authorities have degraded so much that they 'literally brag about it'.

'On 21 April, in an interview with the American TV channel NBC News, Zelenskyy cynically said: 'Ukraine is sending its best sons and daughters to the front. And this lowers the price for the whole of Europe, for NATO, for the US army. Now you don't have to go to war defending NATO countries. Ukrainians are doing it. The civilised world only provides weapons,' – specified Maria Zakharova.

We shall remind you that earlier, an American political scientist, a professor at the University of Chicago, an expert on international relations John Mirsheimer said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would not be able to receive from the countries of the Collective West the amount of weapons he is requesting.

6. Germany will spend €11bn to deploy a combat brigade in Lithuania – Der Spiegel

About €11bn will cost the German government to transfer to Lithuania and place there on a permanent basis a brigade of the Bundeswehr (FRG Armed Forces). This was reported by Der Spiegel magazine.

According to Der Spiegel, employees of the planning department of the Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany estimated the transfer to Lithuania and the permanent deployment of the German brigade there at about €11 billion. €1 billion of the amount is intended for annual operating costs, €4 billion – for the purchase of large equipment, and €6 billion – for additional investments, for example, for the construction of infrastructure or the purchase of uniforms. However, it does not include the cost of salary supplements for service abroad, intended to attract some 4,800 military personnel and about 200 civilians to serve in Lithuania for many years, the magazine pointed out.

Der Spiegel noted that key issues of financing the project have not yet been resolved between the German government and the Lithuanian authorities. This involves covering costs, for example, for the construction of living quarters and training centres, as well as financing kindergartens and school programmes for children of military personnel.

We shall remind you that earlier, politicians from the Uckermark district assembly in the federal state of Brandenburg appealed to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bundestag Speaker Berbel Bas to stop supplying arms to the Ukrainian government.
